I have come across some new (to me anyway) blogs that are sure to show up on my sidebar someday when I have the time to update it. The first one is The Attic Downstairs which hit me with this post: The Soldier to which I reply (here) AMEN BABY! AMEN! I have not served in the military, but I have known many who have and I have nothing but the utmost respect for them and it burns me when people are disrespectful to them and the memories of the fallen. Next time I see someone standing outside a funeral of a soldier with protest signs spewing hateful things... I will kick their asses. Really. I'll plea temorary insanity or PMS or some such.
Next one is Kiss my Sass. Mostly because I have finally found someone who has worse luck than me with chinese fortune cookies. Mine have also always been lame, but the three she had... beats me hands down. Also, because of her weblog, I have discovered the true meaning of scumbag. I have to admit, I did get a wee bit grossed out by the definition, but that's because I have an over active imagination.
There are two that have already been added to the sidebar because they are both terrific, Cave of the Curmudgeon and Loveland Insider. Go check them all out... I'll still be here when you get back.
Finally, I have to link this due to it being my newest love and because hubster and I have been looking for a new car for him. We were looking for something that got better gas mileage than the Pathfinder (which isn't hard) but was sporty and didn't cost us a third/fourth and fifth mortgage on the home. He is also looking at one of these, but he seems to be more set on the Sky - or perhaps it's just me projecting.
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news about the passing of fellow HCBA'er, the ever amusinging yet thought provoking Nickie Goomba. I know this news is a couple of days old but I had stopped doing weekly checks on his blog when he stopped back in February. My thoughts and prayers go to his family.
Rest in peace, Nickie.
With a great entry from the perspective of a person who is legally trying to immigrate to the US:
I think that any person who is in support of any bill providing
legal citizenship; amnesty; and/or whatever they proceed to call such a
bill is personally casting stones at my family. I am ignited and am
anxious to complete my doctorate. I believe that once my doctorate is
completed that I will have a greater voice against such an egregious
form of legal wrangling. I think that these corporations, government
officials and others who harbor illegal aliens should be fined, charge
legally, and receive the greatest punitive consequences allowed by the
letter of the law.
Go read the whole letter and welcome back the Loveland Insider (aka: he who used to be known as Nerdy Conservative)
Basically, this is just a post for the sake of posting. I do have endless commentary and diatribes on the current events. I just don’t have the energy to writing them down. Frankly, I'm under the impression that the world has gone mad and sooner or later gravity will stop working. I have been so aggravated by everything that the only way I can sleep at night is due to my lovely little escapism addiction:
See, in the wonderful world of gaming - if someone pisses you off, you can blast them with the lovely "Wizard's Fury" spell, or whale on them with your handy dandy enchanted daedric sword. Just last night, I was imagining the troll that I was setting on fire was Al Franken... (they make a satisfying thump when their mangled coprses finally hit the ground). No... it's not a death threat - just creative visualization...
Does it make a difference that I was wearing my "I play violent video games, I could snap at any moment” shirt? (Which has now become my new favorite article of clothing….)
I know, I know… I have issues – a library of them…
It’s annoying enough that the Star Spangled Banner was sung in Spanish – but to change the words to it to reflect how the illegal immigrants feel about a country that isn’t “theirs” is downright insulting. I ask myself – how would the French take it if their National Anthem was first, translated into American style English then had the words changed? Considering how Jacque Chirac felt about a fellow Frenchman addressing a Summit in English – well, you can see how open the French would be about that. And rightfully so. It’s a part of a nation’s heritage and to trash it with someone else’s political agenda is crap. And shame on the British jackass that did it. What do you know of the plight of the illegals?
Indeed, looking at the pictures of the signs from yesterdays lame assed protests, one would think that just since ChimpyMcBushyHaliburton took office, we “the American people” have gone on a land grab like no other – we have murdered millions of innocent Mexicans on their home ground, wrested California, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Florida and possibly New York all in a matter of 6 years. Damn! For such a stupid president, he certainly has managed to gain power over a lot of territory. I’m impressed.
I have also noticed that it seemed that a lot of media outlets were calling this a immigrant protest… not really distinguishing from the illegal aliens and the legal and naturalized citizens. Hmmm… see, I would bet that most of the American population has no problem whatsoever with Immigrants coming here and trying to remain here legally. After all, a vast majority of us are descendants of immigrants.
Since I don’t have my own biological family history to fall back on… I will tell you something about my adopted family’s. (Which I had learned back in 2004, actually.) My mom and I went to NYC and while there we stopped off at Ellis Island. There we found out the history of how immigrants were handled back in the day. Unlike all the Romanized shite that we all hear concerning the wide open arms of Ms. Liberty accepting the wretched refuse, the honest version paints a harsher picture. Perhaps some of our illegal friends should take a lesson in it.
While we were there, we took it to our heads to locate the records on her grandfather. WE couldn’t find him in the Ellis Island records for the date he originally came (apparently he disembarked in Boston) but we did find records on when he came back with his wife. See, originally, they only had enough money for one of them to come over. After getting to the shores of the promised land, there had to be someone there to meet you (family, friend, employer), you had to have the promise of a job and proof of such and lastly, one had to have $50 dollars in your pocket (I think, it may have been 25, but I think $50 was more like it.) You also had to be in fairly decent health. If you didn’t meet these qualifications, they put you back on the boat and sent you home. And that was if you were a man. Women either had to have a husband or Fiancée waiting or a job (mostly indentured servant type jobs.) Many women would marry right there on the island to complete strangers just for a chance to walk into this country.
My great grandfather had these things, but had to leave his wife in Holland for three long years as he build up enough savings to buy some land, start his own farm, build a house, get back on a ship and go and get my great grandmother. Who was motion sick for the entire three week trip back to this country. So, I am sorry I don’t buy into the whole sense of entitlement that the illegals are ranting about. They are here illegally, they are breaking the law and they are whining about this country trying to enforces that law and protect its own boarders at least ½ as much as Mexico does.
And by the way, as you are waving the Mexican flag in my face and saying how horrible this country is to you – the only thing I can really think of to say is go back to Mexico then. Get the hell out of my face and go back. No one put a gun to your head to force you to come here so get the hell out.
And as for those “jobs” that supposedly Americans won’t do – I got a plan for those folk who are now living on unemployment and other government subsidies that are suckling off the government teat – “Oh look – a large amount of jobs just opened up. Get off your ass and get to workin’!”
Oh, and speaking of all that land that you feel the US has stolen from you - did it ever occur to you that even if the US gave that land back to Mexico - ya' all would be crossing the borders into Oregon, Utah, and Oklahoma - ok, maybe not Oklahoma... but the problem that has driven you out of your home would still be a FREAKIN' PROBLEM?!?!?!?!? sigh...
Ok, I think I am done. For now...
