Now, I try to rarely complain about the weather, mainly because it's an asinine thing to do. No one has control over it (though many of us wish we did) and ya can't blame anyone for the obscure yet extreme variations.
Now, I have lived in Rottenchester for most of my life (the exception being the four years I spent in Erie at Gannon U.) So I am used to cold winters, late springs and early falls. Not really used to the extreme heat. For me, that means anything over 90°F. (and in this area, the humidity is almost always through the roof - being near a large body of water and all...)
Anyway, I did the conversion.
Currently it's 86°F (or 30°C) with a heat index of 97° (36.11111° C)
The high today is supposed to be 98°F (36.6666667°C) with a heat index of 110°(43.3333333°C)
Now, before any of the Southerners go off on this Yankee about not knowing what real heat is, just remember I'm not used to it. 95°F is like boiling in hot water to me. You would have my sympathy if it were 0° (-17.7777778°C) with a windchill of -15 ( -26.1111111°C) because I know it would be a shock to the system and something the southern folk aren't used to...
Basically, what I am trying to say is that if I wanted to be this hot, I would be living somewhere much further south instead of NY. That is my whine for the day. And since most of the country is in the same bind as I am, you all have my sympathy. Try to stay cool, stay out of the sun and stay hydrated. This too shall pass (from the National Weather service, my reprieve comes on Thursday...)

I feel for the people over in El Paso who are getting an unusual amount of rain and have tremendous flooding right now. I also wonder where the Tropical Storm is going to go, I hope it isn't here. We have the heat and have to worry about that too.
Good luck girl. Drink plenty of water and some gatorade if you can get some. Turn up your air and hibernate.
Posted by: Lucy Stern at August 2, 2006 12:29 PMHeck, we don't need it to get down to 0F for it to be a shock to the system. You should see what happens when it dips below even 50F. And when it gets just below freezing, the city just about shuts down.
So I don't think a tiny bit of whining when things go to true extremes for a region is that bad. ;-)
